Location: Based in NYC, acts global
VAWAA which stands for ” vacation with an artist” was funded in November 2015 by Geetika Agrawal. She had the idea of it when she recognized a gap in the travel industry: she wanted a transformational travel experience something that stimulated the creative side of her brain. Yet after numerous researches, she couldn’t find anything that would fulfill her expectations.
VAWAA IS a website that offers short-term apprenticeships with artists, designers, and creatives around the world. With VAWAA, an art-hungry traveler can book several-day workshops with artists, craftsmen and designers of various kinds in Buenos Aires, Kyoto, Bangalore, among other destinations. The company connects travelers and artists, suggests optimal flight routes and lodging.
Those apprenticeships range from $300 to $3,000. Those price tags consist of a fee set by each artist (which includes the cost for materials), along with a portion covering VAWAA’s operating expenses. The experiences range from four to seven days, and from 20 to 70 hours.
What makes VAWAA appart is the spontaneity under which it operates. Indeed, each artist focus on individualized instruction for each traveler which evolves into a very personal personal experience based on the relationship the traveler ends up having with the artist.
