VIDEO: Grasshopper GH Folded Plate Structure
Grasshopper Tutorial – Folded Plate Structure from WALLACE on Vimeo.
In this grasshopper tutorial I demonstrate how to make a parametric folded plate structure based on two adjacent surfaces. I use the graph mapper to create the form and then the graph mapper and iso-curves to create an uneven division across the surface. The resulting points are organised using a tree branch path mapping routine and then woven together to create an offset grid. This structural system has been used extensively, one of my favourites is the yokohama ferry terminal.
To create the surfaces you will need to make some adjustments to diagrid method in this tutorial. Instead of the classic diagrid – each of the triangle panels will need to be split in half because they are folded in two directions.
