MAT-FAB: MATERIAL: Laywoo-D3 Inventor introduces Laybrick
Kai Parthy of CC-Products, creator of the Laywoo-D3 wood composite filament, has invented a new material called Laybrick. It can print as a smooth or rough surface similar to sandstone. It can be grinded, painted, dyed and extruded at a layer resolution between 100 and 500 microns.
The new filament is said to work perfectly for large surface area print jobs, because it is naturally resistant to curling (warping commonly associated with plastic printing). It is recommended for architecture and landscape modeling work, and other areas where bigger build sizes are necessary. Printing temperature range is from 165°C to 190°C for a smooth surface and 210°C for a rough surface. A heated bed is not required.
A limited supply of the new material is currently for sale in 250 g spools of 1.75 and 3 mm filament onOrbi-Tech and ebay. Parthy is seeking investment capital for mass production. Laywoo-D3 retailers have been exhausting inventory faster than filament can be generated and a similar situation could develop with Laybrick.
